Welcome to DOTGOV.OMAG

OMAG is dedicated to helping municipal municipalities enhance their cybersecurity by facilitating the acquisition of professional email services, a secure website, and comprehensive email security training. These measures not only bolster the municipalities' online presence but also significantly improve their overall cyber resilience, ensuring a safer and more secure digital environment for their operations and communications.

OMAG is committed to enhancing cybersecurity for its member cities and towns by providing access to professional email systems, secure websites, and a comprehensive Cybersecurity Awareness Training platform. Partnering with the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) through the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security, OMAG offers these vital services for the first year to municipalities currently relying on free, insecure, and unprotected email services like Yahoo, Gmail, or local Internet Service Provider email services.

If you represent an OMAG member municipality, particularly in a small, rural, or economically disadvantaged community, and are interested in obtaining secure .gov email, website services, and cybersecurity training, fill out the form on this page today!

.GOV Registration

  • A .gov domain is a trusted and official top-level domain used exclusively by government entities in the United States. Having a .gov domain adds a level of credibility and trustworthiness to the municipality's online presence.

  • OMAG will walk you through the process of registering a .GOV domain through the Federal Government. This typically involves providing proof of the municipality's legitimacy and official status, including legal documentation and verification of government affiliation. Once approved, you'll receive the .gov domain, which can then be seamlessly integrated with Microsoft 365 email and a professional website.

Professional Email

  • Moving municipal email services to a professional platform like Microsoft Office 365 brings numerous benefits. It offers robust email security features, data protection, and compliance tools, ensuring that sensitive government information remains confidential and secure. Office 365 also provides reliable email services with minimal downtime, ensuring that critical communications are never disrupted.

  • Having a .gov email address, hosted by Microsoft, for municipal cities is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it lends an air of authenticity and professionalism to the communication between local government officials and residents, local businesses, and other stakeholders.

Secondly, it’s more secure. A significant portion of OMAG’s email cyber claims come from free, personal email services such as Yahoo or Gmail.

Third, to use a .Gov domain, you must have a paid for service, and OMAG recommends Microsoft’s solution (it’s what we use!), as it helps you become compliant with Oklahoma open records requirements and other applicable laws.

Web Design & Creation

  • A website is the digital face of a municipal city, providing residents and visitors with a centralized and easily accessible source of information and services. A well-designed and maintained website enhances transparency, fosters civic engagement, and showcases the city's commitment to modernization and efficient service delivery, ultimately contributing to a positive and lasting impression.

  • As part of the process of registering for a .gov domain, OMAG will recommend that you let us build you a professional website, using a platform called Squarespace. This will be a collaborative effort between the municipality and OMAG, to ensure that the end product fits your needs and wants.

Cybersecurity Awareness

  • OMAG recommends a Security Awareness Training tool, which simulates phishing and infected emails to train staff and inform leadership of security risks.

  • As part of the grant, OMAG will pay for the first year of awareness training for your city or town.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to change my email address?

Answer: Yes, but we and our partners can assist you with setting up forwarding, automatic responses, and even copying your email into the new system. Citizens and your contacts will be informed about the change when they email your old address and notified about the new email.

Q: We already have a website, can you take it over for us?

Answer: Unfortunately, no, but we’re happy to help you setup the new one within our preferred platform that integrates hosting, administration, and design in one, easy-to-use system. If you’re not interested in the website option, we can still provide you the services around email, security, and the setup with your .GOV, and help your existing web host connect it to your existing site.

Q: We’re not really sure how we would pay for this in the second year.

Answer: OMAG, as your city’s cyber insurance provider, recommends that your municipality invest sufficient funds into Information Technology services that are sustainable, secure, and appropriate for running a city government. Free services designed for personal use only fail to support the city’s adherence with State law and put the city at risk from hackers and scammers. If the city is still unable to invest these funds, the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security can consider funding Year 2.
